"An Open Letter to Our Local Businesses..."
August 02, 2021
Hello treasured Monroeville Business!
I hope this letter finds you well. Please allow me to tell you about an event that will be happening here in Monroeville on September 28th.
Monroeville will be holding a ceremony to signify our village as being a part of the Purple Heart Trail. As described on their website, "The purpose of the Purple Heart Trail is to create a symbolic and honorary system of roads, highways, bridges, and other monuments that give tribute to the men and women who have been awarded the Purple Heart medal. The Purple Heart Trail accomplishes this honorary goal by creating a visual reminder to those who use the road system that others have paid a high price for their freedom to travel and live in a free society. Signs placed at various locations annotate those roads and highways where legislation has been passed to designate parts of the national road system as The Purple Heart Trail." Ohio is one of 45 states that has such designations.
Here in Monroeville, we are inviting Purple Heart recipients, along with their families and the general community, to come together to acknowledge this event. In doing so, we hope to not only raise awareness and honor those who have sacrificed so much, but also allow them and their families to have a chance to share their stories so that they are not forgotten.
We have invited our American Legion Post 547 and our local scouts to participate in the small ceremony. Afterwards, there will be a dessert reception. Here is where you can help. Would your business like to contribute in any way? Perhaps you are able to donate towards offsetting the cost of either the reception or the Purple Heart signs we would like to have made and posted near our village welcome signs. Maybe your business would like to honor the Purple Heart attendees (or their family) by gifting them with a discount to your business, or a token of some sort? All donors to the vent will be recognized in the event program. Checks may be made payable to the Village of Monroeville with the words "Purple Heart" in the memo.
Do you have an idea you would like to share to make this event a success? Are there people (or families) who have been awarded the Purple Heart that you know? Please pass this information on to me as well so they can be invited.
I appreciate your time and consideration of our endeavor. Please reach out to me if you have any questions!
Yours in service,
Melissa M. Fries-Seip, Mayor
