The Council for the Village of Monroeville enacted a change in the credit for taxes paid to other municipalities through Ordinance 2025-07, which was enacted 6/10/25. Essentially, this will impact taxpayers who reside within the Village corporation limits, yet are employed in a different municipality that withholds municipal income taxes. While Monroeville’s tax rate will continue to be 1%, as it has been since 1983, the previously granted 100% credit was reduced to a 75% credit based on the amounts paid to other municipalities, effective January 1, 2026. This change was brought about as Council received increasing feedback from the community regarding the state of Village streets and sidewalks. Additionally, Council observed a decrease in financial assistance from state and federal sources, alongside a rise in the costs associated with supplies, maintenance, and operational materials. Council took into account the need to enhance the overall efficiency of Village operations, while ensuring long-term financial stability. In order for Council to address these issues, the adjustment to the income tax credit was essential for strengthening the foundation of the community.
